How to Change the Oil on a 1993 Toyota Camry

The 1993 Camry is equipped with either a four-cylinder or six-cylinder engine. Both engines require routine maintenance, of which oil and filter changes are core procedures. The filter and oil should be changed every 3,000 miles or 3 months, whichever comes earliest. Fresh oil reduces friction and heat, while a new filter traps contaminants, protecting the engine from damage. Failure to perform regular oil changes may result in reduced engine life.

Things You'll Need

  • Oil catch pan
  • Wrench
  • Oil filter wrench
  • Oil Filter
  • 4 qts. motor oil
  • Park the Camry on a level surface, engage the emergency brake and remove the key from the ignition.

  • Place the oil catch pan directly below the oil pan.

  • Remove the oil drain plug with the wrench and let the oil drain into the oil catch pan.

  • Reinsert the oil drain plug into the oil pan and tighten with the wrench.

  • Position the oil pan under the oil filter located on the front of the engine. Remove the oil filter with the assistance of the oil filter wrench. Drain the oil from the oil filter into the oil catch pan.

  • Spread a thin layer of oil on the rubber gasket of the new oil filter. Screw the oil filter onto the engine and tighten using both hands.

  • Remove the oil filler cap on the top of the engine and pour 4 qts. of oil into the engine. Replace the oil filler cap and tighten until it clicks. Remove the dipstick and verify the oil is between the "min" and "max" marks. Replace the dipstick into the dipstick holder.

  • Start the engine and confirm the oil pressure light is no longer lit.

  • Dispose of the oil and oil filter in a proper, designated disposal facility.
