Changing your oil at regular intervals, as suggested by your Scion's owner's manual, can go a long way in extending the life of your Scion and keeping the engine freshly lubricated. Doing this yourself is a quick process that can be completed with short list of tools and materials. The Scion has a relatively small oil pan, so the oil drain time will be minimal compared to cars with larger engines and a bigger oil capacity.
Raise the front end of your Scion using a floor jack or the scissor jack that is equipped with the car. Place jack stands underneath each jacking point to keep the front of the car raised.
Position the oil drain pan underneath your oil drain plug.
Loosen the oil drain plug using the 14-mm socket to release the oil into the drain pan.
As the oil drips into the drain pan, go to the engine bay and loosen the cap that sits on the engine oil filler neck. This will help remove airflow restrictions and hasten the speed at which the oil drains.
Replace the oil drain plug when the oil has finished draining. Be careful not to over-tighten the plug screw.
Place the funnel into the engine oil filler neck and slowly pour the new oil into your engine. Screw the engine oil filler neck cap back into place once you have poured all 4.2 quarts.
Start your engine and let the car idle in a stationary position for a few minutes to complete the procedure and circulate the new oil in your engine.
