How to reset the oil life indicator light on a 2005 Honda Odyssey

You did your homework. You read all the minivan reviews and bought the best family automobile on the market, the Honda Odyssey. Whether you bought new or used, you still have maintenance to worry about.

If you're like me and can change your oil but have trouble resetting the oil life indicator light, this article is for you.

Things You'll Need

  • A Honda Odyssey (2005 or newer)
  • Your finger (index, to be precise)
  • Lets get started. Place the key in the ignition and turn as if to start your minivan - but do not actually start your Odyssey.

  • Locate and click the black odometer button located near the bottom of the instrument panel until "Oil Life" along with a percentage value appears.

  • Release your finger from the button, then press and hold the button for ten (10) seconds. Lets count: one Mississippi, two Mississippi, etc. all the way to ten.

  • Once again, release your finger from the button, then press and hold the button for five (5) more seconds. Lets count: one Mississippi, two Mississippi, etc. all the way to five.

  • Your Honda Odyssey's display panel should read "Oil Life 100%." You are done!

Now go brag to your spouse about how much you saved by changing the oil yourself.
