How to Set the Computer After Changing the Oil in the 2004 Cadillac DeVille

The 2004 Cadillac Deville is equipped with a Drivers Information Center (DIC). The DIC displays an array of information to the driver, including fuel economy, average speed, transmission oil life and engine oil life. The "Change Engine Oil Soon" light comes on as the vehicle approaches the scheduled oil change. This light does not reset itself once the oil change is completed. The owner or service technician must manually reset the light, which is a straightforward process requiring no tools.

Things You'll Need

  • Ignition key
  • Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the "Run" position. Do not start the vehicle.

  • Look to the right of the speedometer and locate the DIC control panel. There are three buttons on this panel: "Info", "Info Reset" and "On/Off."

  • Press the "Info" button up or down until the DIC reads "Engine Oil Life."

  • Press and hold the "Info Reset" button until "100% Engine Oil Life" is displayed on the DIC. The oil life is now reset.

  • Turn the ignition off and remove the ignition key.
