How to Reset a 2006 Mini Cooper Oil Light

The 2006 Mini Cooper uses its onboard computer system to track driving and engine conditions to determine when an oil change is needed. A message flashes on the display when the computer has determined it is nearly time for an oil change. As the time for service draws near, the oil light may stay on constantly until it is reset. When the oil is changed by a BMW technician, he resets the oil light. If you change the oil yourself, you can manually reset the oil light so it will remain off until the next oil change is needed.

  • Insert the key into the ignition. Do not turn the engine on.

  • Press and hold the trip odometer knob.

  • Turn the ignition to the "I" position. Release the trip odometer knob when the word "Reset" appears on the display.

  • Press and hold the trip odometer knob. Release the knob when the word "Reset" starts to blink on and off.

  • Press and release the trip odometer knob. The oil light resets.
