How to Reset the Oil Light in a 2003 Tahoe

At-home car maintenance can save the average driver time and money. Most cars produced after 2000 display warning lights and messages to inform you when you are almost out of gas or when car fluids such as oil need changing. These warning lights need to be manually reset once you have addressed the problem.

Things You'll Need

  • Car keys
  • Insert the keys into the 2003 Chevy Tahoe.

  • Turn the keys slightly to the right to the "Run" position without starting the engine. The radio and the dashboard and warning lights should come on, but the engine should remain off.

  • Ensure that the "Change oil" message is displayed in the car's message center.

  • Fully depress and release the car's accelerator three times within five seconds. The "Change oil" message should flash for approximately five seconds and then disappear.
