How to Change the Oil in a Plymouth Voyager

A Plymouth Voyager oil change requires a 17mm wrench, a strap-type oil filter wrench and an oil with a viscosity of 5W-30 or 10W-30. Refer to the owner's manual for the correct oil capacity for your particular model. The manufacturer recommends changing the oil every 7,500 miles.

Prepare the Plymouth Voyager for an Oil Change

  • Lift your Plymouth Voyager using a jack and then place the minivan on jack stands. If you don't have jack stands, drive the van onto a set of wheel ramps.

  • Pop the hood and remove the dipstick and oil filler cap. The dipstick is on the front of the engine compartment, near the radiator. The oil fill is to the left of the dipstick.

  • Gather an oil drip pan, 17mm wrench, oil filter wrench, cleaning cloths and a new oil filter. Slide under your Plymouth Voyager.

Change the Oil

  • Locate the oil filter and oil drain plug underneath the Plymouth Voyager. Examine the bottom of the oil pan for the oil drain plug; the filter is near it.

  • Remove the oil drain plug with a 17mm socket wrench. Pull the plug out and let the oil drain for 10 to 15 minutes. Check the gasket and threads for damage.

  • Remove the oil filter with a strap-type filter wrench. Dump the old oil into the drip pan. Tighten the new oil filter by hand and replace the oil drain plug, using the wrench. Clean off the excess oil.

  • Move the jack stands, lower your Plymouth Voyager and get under the hood to add oil. Turn on the engine and check that the oil pressure gauge to rises. If it doesn't, turn the van off and add more oil.

  • Turn off the engine. Take an oil reading on the dipstick. If the oil level isn't at full, add more oil.
