How to Add Stripes to Tires

Striped tires create a visual impact that normal black tires simple cannot generate. A set of striped tires will add an increased visual appeal to your everyday vehicle or put the finishing touch on your masterpiece. However, store bought striped tires are typically substantially more expensive than an average black tire. For a more affordable option, you can add your own stripes onto your tires in any color or design that you'd like for a fraction of the cost.

Things You'll Need

  • Rubberized tire paint primer
  • Rubberized tire paint
  • Paint brush
  • Water
  • Soap
  • Sponge
  • Wash your tires with a sponge, warm soap and water to remove any dirt that would interfere with the tire paint. Allow the tires to air dry.

  • Paint the desired stripe pattern on your tire with the rubberized tire primer. The paint should be put on in an even layer which covers the existing black color of the tires. Allow the paint to dry for six hours.

  • Carefully paint the colored rubberized tire paint over the painted primer stripe. The paint should only cover the previously painted stripe of primer on the tire. Allow the paint to dry for three hours.

  • Paint a second layer of the colored rubberized paint to smooth out any irregularities. This is the final layer of paint; make sure it is a smooth even coating. Allow the tires to dry for a full 24 hours before driving.
