Bestop is famous for its high-quality convertible tops for Jeeps and also makes a line of truck bed covers. Now Bestop has a new line of bumpers for real trail use. The High Rock 4x4 bumpers for Jeep YJs, TJs, and JKs offer a plethora of options from winch and light mounts to rear tire carriers and tow points.

It's a fact that choosing a bumper mostly comes down to personal aesthetics, and we find that the High Rock bumpers we installed on a TJ Wrangler give it a brawny approach while protecting fenders and supporting a winch.

Is It A Gimmick?
Is the roller cool or dumb? In the front it would have hung down lower than the bumper, but we can't deny it protects the fuel tank in the rear. We wouldn't be surprised if the exhaust took a beating now that the tank is sheltered. Even if you decide against the rollers, the Bestop High Rock 4x4 bumpers still have the thick flanges that will add some protection and can serve as recovery points.

This Jeep isn't an extreme wheeler but does meet its share of trails, so added protection is important. After the stock sheetmetal protection was removed, the new Bestop rear was lined up with the factory mounting holes. Some of the holes had to be slotted slightly with a die grinder for ease of installation. The gas tank may also need to be lowered slightly to gain access to the mounting bolts. The rear bumper definitely takes more time to install, and a second pair of hands doesn't hurt.
Below the rear bumper we added the rock roller. This helps protect the fuel tank when backing up or coming off steep obstacles. The old front bumper had seen its share of dings, but the Jeep owner decided that a full-width front bumper would protect the body better than the stubby bumper some hardcore off-roaders choose The new front bumper is relatively easy to install, though you will need to run longer bolts at the sway bar mount. The tapered ends do not diminish approach angle over stock, and there is a front roller option also, though we chose not to go that route.
