How to Program a Taxi Meter

A taxi meter is an electronic device used by a vehicle for hire. Cab services, limousine services and even public transportation buses will use these types of meters. It determines the distance traveled and estimates a specific fare price. Once you have your taxi meter installed in your vehicle, it needs to be programmed to accurately calculate fares. Even though each device varies, the programming is typically the same.

  • Press the "Start" button on your taxi meter.

  • The next prompt asks if you want to start your fare calculation. Press the "Enter" or "Yes" button, depending on your model.

  • Program your calculated running time, running speed and running distance. The meter will charge the customer based upon the time you arrived at the destination, your speed and the distance traveled.

  • Press "Enter" or "Yes". The meter will calculate the cab fare. No special math is necessary. The taxi meter will use your information to determine the customer's cost.

  • Press the "Yes" button to accept the cab fare price. If you enter "No", you will need to reprogram your running time, running speed and running distance.
