Rollbar Install - How To - Hot Rod Magazine

Hoop Scoop

Marko Radielovic had a big problem. After sinking a sizable pile of cash on a built 340, high-capacity clutch, and 4.10:1 gears for his ’68 Barracuda ragtop, he took it to the dragstrip. After just one pass, track officials threw him out for running quicker than 13.99. A longtime member of the Late Night Acceleration Club, Marko was trying to clean up his act and break his street racing habit. But the sanctioning body wasn’t making his detox easy. The NHRA rulebook says convertibles running 13.99 or quicker must run a rollbar; fixed-roof vehicles must install the tubular reinforcements once they surpass the 11.99 threshold. Being a newly reformed and law-abiding citizen, Marko got a Competition Engineering rollbar kit and enlisted the services of Extreme Performance for the installation process. Extreme Performance is a highly qualified shop with the know-how to handle virtually any chassis work, engine assembly, or chassis dyno need. Since our subject is a ragtop, it affords an excellent opportunity to photograph the correct way to add a bar to any car.
