034 Golf V6
Two months ago we introduced the latest beast from 034 Motorsport in Fremont, CA. Deciding to retire its 908whp Audi A4 monster from the eurotuner GP, the team has begun development of this '01 VW GTI. 034 is hoping it will dominate in this year's competition.

You're probably wondering how much power this car will push... Well, 034 is preparing an Audi 2.7T V6 with a multitude of upgrades. It will be bored and stroked to 3.0L with forged internals and prepped for a single-turbo setup. "That way, we can swap different turbos on it. We'll tune it for 650hp with a fast-spooling turbo for the track. Then we can easily bolt-on a 1200hp turbo for drag and dyno set-ups," explained Javad Shadzi of 034.

The engine will be mated to a strengthened six-speed manual gearbox from a Euro-spec Audi 100. 034 credits Advanced Auto Motion for help with the tranny.

As for the suspension, Ohlins Porsche 996 components will be used to make it one of the best handling Mk4s to date. The rear shocks bolt right in, but the fronts need to be modified to fit the Mk4. This included widening the front track because the 996 rear-end is 6'' wider than the GTI front!

The wider track required wider wheels and fenders, so a custom widebody has been handcrafted from sheet metal. The rear fenders were widened 4'' on each side, while the fronts are 3'' wider. It will accommodate 255-series front and 295 rear tires for improved traction. Stay tuned for more updates on this rear-wheel drive, mid-engined insanity.

RSW Mk6 Drag Car
Having previously built what they touted as one of the fastest Mk5s in the country, Red Line Speed Worx in Washington, NJ is now working on its new project: a Mk6 drag car.

The focus of this build is to test the limits of the stock internal components, according to owner Patrick Murray. He told us they'll be trying to determine which parts could be improved, and which parts are adequate for high horsepower applications.

As one of APR's top distributors, the Mk6 will also function as a testbed for the newest of APR's stage 3 kits, in conjunction with a built motor.

Powering the Mk6 will be a combination of stock and aftermarket upgrades. This is one of the first shops building a Mk6, so they're engineering custom rods and other internal parts they didn't want to divulge at this time. With questions about the head, it will remain stock for now to determine any weak spots.

Higher horsepower will come through an APR-branded GT2860 turbo running on the stock injectors and fuel pump. This will be the focus of testing for the shop.

Power will go out through a custom Southbend four-puck clutch with a lightened flywheel, upgraded pressure plate and Quaife LSD. Other modifications to the transmission include chemical and abrasive polishing of the sliders and gears as well as modified synchros to help shift times. Being a drag car, Red Line had custom drag wheels made, weighing around 7 lb front and 4 lb 4.5'' rears.

As Murray explained, they want to focus on building a car anybody could create with bolt-on performance, so the body and interior will remain stock. There's no rollcage, it has OEM seats, glass windows, etc.

Yet RSW is hoping to run low 11s out of the box, with the goal of low 10s after further improvements.
