AFE Cold-Air Intake Install

If you’re a diesel owner, then you to know how important it is to get the most mpg you can out of your truck. Our good friend Dustin Bowers asks the same question we all do: “How can I get more mpg out of my ’06 Ford F-250 Super Duty?” Not only does Dustin want more mpg, but he’d also like more horsepower.   |   Bill Cohron of Power Hungry Diesel ran the stock truck on the dyno before the work began. Dustin decided to contact Bill Cohron at Power Hungry Diesel in Winder, Georgia (about an hour north of Atlanta) to have the work done. Without any discussion needed, Dustin and Bill both decided the best intake on the market to use was going to be the AFE cold-air intake. AFE specializes in all make and model trucks from gas to diesel. The kit we used on Dustin’s truck was the Stage 2 SI kit with the Pro-Guard 7 filter. This kit flows about 120 percent more air than the stock intake. The filter is fully enclosed in its own case, which keeps the heat from the engine compartment away, allows cooler air into the motor, increases horsepower and torque without killing your pocketbook—and it won’t hurt your fuel mileage. Dustin’s truck actually saw about a 3 percent increase in mpg. Before the install took place, Bill ran Dustin’s truck on the dyno to show him the before and after results of installing an intake. As a result of the install, the truck picked up about 15 extra horsepower and about 30 lb-ft of torque. Not bad for about an hour of your time.
