2008 Ford F-150 sunroof Rubber Strip - Truck Trend Garage
Question: I have a 2008 Ford F-150. I don’t know if it was rats or birds, but something chewed up the rubber strip around the sunroof. I can hear the wind whistling while I drive. Is it an easy job to replace? Should I try it myself?
Answer: That might not be a good idea. Not that it’s the toughest of jobs, but you have to be somewhat artistic to get it right the first time. You’ll have to remove the glass, remove the original sunroof weatherstrip, and clean off every bit of the adhesive from the weatherstrip channel. Then comes the tricky part: Apply wet adhesive and slowly/carefully install the new strip uniformly, without making a mess. Once it looks good and the adhesive has cured, the glass must be reinstalled and adjusted correctly to the roof opening. If you have no experience, I wouldn’t recommend it. You can get an auto glass service to do the job and avoid the higher cost at a dealership. I haven’t seen a lot of bird damage, but I know rats love to chew on wiring and windshield washer hoses.
