Truck Trend Garage: 2010 Buick Enclave Navigation System Issues

Q: We have the navigation system in our 2010 Buick Enclave. It has the standard arrows moving along the road as you travel, using the motion and position for the compass. We have no other form of directional reading on the screen. Last March, on a trip to Arizona, we stopped at a shopping mall. When we got back into our car and started it up, we saw a full-size compass on the nav screen. We figured maybe a satellite upgrade had happened. After we drove for three or four blocks, the nav screen reverted back to the arrows. This happened once again while in Scottsdale. We went to a large Buick dealer to sort it out, with no success. In getting into a new Enclave without the nav disc, the full screen compass came right up. We took the disc out of our radio and, lo and behold, there was the full-screen compass. But we can't get it on our unit while driving. Our local dealership has been trying to get GM Buick to come up with a solution without much success.   |   01 2010 Buick Enclave Side Rolling View A: It certainly could be a software glitch. Be sure your local dealership has contacted GM technical support with the problem, and follow up on a regular basis. If there's an update or a fix in the works, that's the first place you'll find it. I'd also like to be sure you're not dealing with normal operation. Perhaps the full-screen compass is simply a default when the nav system is inoperative -- just like when you remove the disc. I noticed in the Enclave owners' manual that there "may" be a compass available in the Driver's Information Display, outside the nav screen. And I've also heard talk of owners replacing the rearview mirror with an available unit equipped with its own compass.   |   05 2010 Buick Enclave Drivers Cockpit
