Project 6.7L Power Stroke Part 5

In the last year, several companies have been hard at work developing products for the 6.7L Power Stroke. Starting with air intakes, exhaust systems (both DPF-back and DPF-delete), and followed by several tuning options, the aftermarket for Ford’s new V-8 is slowly (but surely) expanding. Over the summer, we got our hands on Spartan Diesel Technologies’ first performance tune for the ’11 Super Dutys. You might recognize the Spartan name from its work in the 6.4L Power Stroke segment, where it offers tuning capable of adding more than 300 hp for ’08 to ’10 trucks.   |   project 6 7 L Power Stroke Part 5 ford Front Three Quarter Once its performance file, dubbed the Warhammer tune, was uploaded to the 6.7L Power Stroke’s ECM, we started collecting data. We quickly discovered that the truck’s factory torque management system was non-existent—providing great bottom end performance and making aggressive, boosted launches in four-wheel drive possible. The 6R140 automatic transmission’s shifts were noticeably firmer yet smooth, and the single sequential turbocharger saw 38 psi of boost on the street. Follow along, because for this installment, the truck made another visit to the dyno, was re-weighed (with larger wheels and tires), and also blasted down the local dragstrip.
