Volvo Repair: installing factory radio, frank bates, factory radio

Question
I bought a 2003 V70 2.4 when I try to load a cd the radio has an CD
error code,
everything else works fine. The dealer tells me that they do not repair
the
unit. They want to replace the radio for $750. I have found a radio on
ebay
that is the right model # and has warranty. Is possible for me to install
the
radio myself, how difficult is it to remove the old unit and replace it
with the
one that was taken from a salvaged car. I know it will need a anti theft
code,
the radio I am thinking of purchasing will come with the VIN from the
car it
was removed from and it will have a serial # on it. Will the dealer give
me the
code? I talked to 2 dealers they told me different things, one says that
there
is no way that any radio not bought from a dealer will work in my car.
The
other dealer tells me that as long as it's the right radio it should work
fine.
Since I just bought this car I'm sorta tapped out, any help you could
give me
would greatly appreciated. Thanks Frank Bates

Answer
you need software and most the time radio from differnet car will not work and  each part in the car  that you repalce it is protected by software it will not   work  even if you do it yor self   so best is  let them do it .you can ask for refurbished radio and give your old one back as trade  it maybe cheaper  how many miles do you have do you have extended warranty ?
