Auto Insurance Claims: auto insurance, insurance expert, insurance coverage

Question
A vehicle is damaged by a shopping cart in a stores parking lot.
The driver of the damage vehicle is not present at the time...
shopping cart has been left against vehicle.
No note is left to let the driver have any information about this.  The store is not responsible.  Does this come under
collision or comprehesive claim with this drivers insurance and why? It is definitely not vandalism...a cart got away from
another person.

Answer
Hello j,

If it can be established that the incident was vandalism, damages would be covered under Comprehensive.  If not, then the damages would be considered accidental and the loss would be covered under Collision.

Generally speaking, however, damages caused by a shopping cart would ordinarily fall below the deductible.
