Auto Insurance Claims: Damage due to snowdrift across lane, snow drift, comp claim

Question
Is this considered a comp claim or a liability claim; I was driving home on a state hwy at 35 mph because of blowing snow. (minnesota) There was a drift that covered the roadway from shoulder to shoulder and 3 ft deep.  It had rained earlier in the day, the temps had dropped dramatically and the snow was crusted over heavily. I hit the drift and tore the lower part of my bumper off. (the ground affects. Comp, since the snow is an Act of God, or collision?

Answer
Hi Kristine,

It will be up to your insurance company if this is paid as a collision or comprehensive claim. On the one hand you could argue that the damage was due to the snow drift and was unavoidable. On the other hand, the insurance company may argue that you are required to always be in control of your vehicle regardless of conditions and may consider this to be anb at-fault event. You will just have to put in the claim, explain your position and see how they decide to handle it.

I hope this helps
