Auto Insurance Claims: Vandalism, home owners insurance, clerical duties

Question
My employers eleven year old son was angry with me for telling him to stop swinging a iron golf club around as he was riding his bicycle.  After telling him the third time and threw the golf club and it hit the back of my new (just had three weeks) 2007 Volkswagon beetle.  Glass went everywhere!!  It has now been in the body shop for two weeks replacing glass, trying to remove glass and painting.  They cannot get all the glass removed from the tailgate and so now have resorted to replacing the tail gate.  My employer is running this claim through her home owners insurance as it has a $250 deductable.  Am I able to claim anything for my inconvience, time taken resolving the claim, stress, etc.  My employer is taking this very "lightly".

Answer
Hi Diane,

Unfortunately, these things are time consuming and inconvenient. You can claim your time to obtain estimates and deal with the claim. However you would have to document the time and since these are essentially clerical duties, you could only claim say $15.00 per hour. The insurance company would likely try to negotiate this amount downward.

I hope this helps
