Auto Insurance Claims: Rental Car Liability, rental car agency, secondary insurance

Question
Can my auto insurance deny coverage for a rental vehicle accident based on the reason that my name was not on the rental agreement? Would rental minimum state limits insurance cover that accident if mine does not cover it? Property damage only,

John from California

Answer
Of course they can.  That is what it says on the policy that you agreed to, right?  Otherwise, they would be liable for every car on the earth that you drive.  If it is property damage only, then the rental car agency should have secondary insurance to cover the loss.
