Auto Insurance Claims: hail damage to 6 month old charger, golf ball size, mopar parts

Question
I was at work and we had golf ball size hail go through. It damaged every panel except 1 on my brand new 6 month old Dodge Charger with 14,000 miles on it. I have a good insurance company but was wondering if i can claim diminished value. This could be a classic 1 day and now after repairs it will not be all original car. We can't sell it and expect to get our money's worth with hail damage all over and aftermarket panels and new paint etc. What are my options with filing a claim and getting what i deserve... the car fully fixed, totaled, or at least getting diminished value on it. I live in Kentucky.
Thank you!!!

Answer
Kristan,

Thank you for your question.

First, there is no doubt your vehicle will suffer a loss in value resulting from this loss.

Because I don’t know what state you reside, I can’t be specific as to if you can or cannot make a claim against your own insurer.

As an example; in Georgia and Washington State one can make a claim for DV against their own insurer if the proper coverage exists.

You will need to check with your state to see if you can make a claim against your own insurer where you reside.

Note; If it were I, I would make sure toselect a repairer who will be looking out for your best interest in your repair. If you elect to take your vehicle to a repairer recommended by your insurer…make sure you get a guaranty in writing from your insurer to cover the workmanship and don’t settle for Aftermarket parts. Your new vehicle deserves now factory MOPAR parts!

Hope this helps and Good Luck!
