Auto Insurance Claims: Sheetrock dropped onto my truck, lienholder, car light

Question
Hi, I have the following question:  I was working on a house (I do finish carpentry) and my truck was parked outside that house.  Another commercial truck was parked not too far away from my vehicle and when the driver of that commercial truck was unloading sheets of drywall (sheetrock) from his truck, he dropped two sheets of sheetrock onto my truck hood (denting it and also cracking the car light).  I am making payments on my truck and have full coverage. I had a few witnesses of this incident and also obtained the commercial truck's insurance information.  I live in WA state.  Which insurance company do I need to deal with to get reimbursed for the damages so I can fix my truck?  Also, will my premiums go up due to this if my insurance company ends up paying me?  Will they pay me or the lienholder? SInce I have not paid off my truck yet....
THank you!

Answer
Hi S,

You should make the claim against the company whos employee damaged your vehicle. You should also go to a bod shop and get an estimate of the cost of repairs. If their insurance company becomes too difficult to del with you can make the claim against your own policy and as long as they eventually get reimbursed by the other company it will have no affect on your policy costs.

If the other insurance comapany pays the claim, they will likely make any checks payable to you. If your company pays any checks will be issued to you and your lienholder or your and the body shop. This is required in order to protect the interests of the lienholder.

I hope this helps
