Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: Adding freon to 2002 beetle, volkswagon beetle, reservoir tank

Question
How do you bypass the low pressure switch in order to get the compressor to run so it will take freon when the freon level is too low to get the compressor to run.fw

Answer
Hi Dean,

There is no low side pressure cycling switch on a Volkswagon Beetle.  The clutch is cycled by the Coolant Fan Control module with inputs from the High pressure sensor and the ambient temperature sensor.  The high pressure switch is a duty cycle switch and bypassing it will not solve your problem.
Regardless of bypassing a low pressure switch you will not need to do this to fill this system and get the clutch to actuate providing all the electronics are ok.  If you are filling on the low side port with a vapor (which you should) just open your can until the reservoir tank and the AC system equalize.  Shorting the LPSS on cycling switch systems was a way to get the to pull refrigerant faster but you can also dunk the tank in a warm bucket of water to get this effect.
Once both systems (tank and AC unit) equalize the clutch will begin to cycle as the systems shoudl both have roughly 70psi static in them.

I would expect you have another problem that might be overlooked.  It is VERY common that the Cooling fan controller is defective.  Be sure to check fuses and connections on fuse brackets (on Battery cover)  Also the three fuses in teh panel.  I can help you with this electrical problem if you like.
Hope you found this helpful,
