Auto body repair & detailing: Flat White Paintjob, primer surfacer, chevy caprice

Question
I recently bought a '92 Chevy Caprice Wagon from a guy who painted it a Flat (Matte) White. I had some auto repair done and the techs got their greasy hands and fingerprints on my car. Now can ypu tell me how to get the places clean? I also want to know the BEST way to maintain the appearance of my ride-cleaning,washing,upkeep,etc...and the BEST products I would need and how-tos and dos and donts. Thank You

Answer
Hi Chris!....From your description that your vehicle was painted a Flat Matte White, makes me automatically think that instead of actually being painted, it has been sprayed with a primer/surfacer instead...Does the surface feel rough to the touch?...If it does, this is possibly what has occurred....If it was indeed painted, the surface should feel smooth like glass....Primer/surfacers are the last step after doing bodywork, and are pourous...Which would result in a textured feel....The next step would be prepping, and then painting...That being said, you mentioned about after getting some work done, techs have left some hand and fingerprints on your vehicle...This is another indication of a primer/surfacer..Contaminents will be allowed to soak in...Sorry, but again, if it was painted, the marks should just wipe off...My advice, would be to get a hold of the person you had purchsed your vehicle from, and ask them what they actually did...If you are able to find out, then please drop me another line, and I will try and help you out further...Thanks....Dave
