Auto body repair & detailing: 2000 Nissan Maxima - Drivers Side Mirror Replacement, nissan maxima, side mirror

Question
Hey Mike,

The driver's side mirror of my maxima was broken recently.  The mirror is seperated into two sections, the actual mirror and the plastic piece that is fitted to the corner of the door window, that allows the mirror to pivot inward for safety reasons.  The mirror part itself is intact, but unfortunately the plastic support piece is broken in half, so the mirror is hanging to the side by only the wiring used for controlling the mirror.  To repair it, the part won't cost much, but i'm sure labor will more than definitely be more than i want it to be, seeing as i'm sure the mirror is going to have to be disconnected and everything rewired back through that support piece...plus i'm sure the door panel has to be removed as well.  Do you think it's as difficult to fix myself as i think it may be?  Also, how much do you think that would cost to fix if i don't feel like putting in the time, parts/labor included?

Thanks for your time,

David

Answer
Go to www.rockauto.com or www.car-part.com for a new mirror. The inside panel comes off easy, just look for retainers around the outside edges and around the handle and under the switch plate. You can do this your self, don't try to fix the old mirror, it's junk, cut the cord before you damage the door.
