Auto body repair & detailing: car door, coat hanger wire, body guys

Question
QUESTION: Hi
we have a Mazda M.P.V L.X. YEAR 2000.  now the driver*s door won*t open , because the wire that open*s the door is off it*s socket.  We took ( broke )  the top paneling on the inside of the door off, but still can not reach the little wire , what can we do to save our door and be able to open it?
thank you
much appreciated
Chantal

ANSWER:  This will probably be tough. With a flashlight and a long coat hanger wire, bent over on the end about a quarter inch, reach down through to the latch and find the release lever that the rod or wire fell off. The window has to be up and the trim off as much as you can.
How did the rod come loose? Did someone try to break into the car?  Those rods do not just fall off.

QUESTION: Hi
it is not a rod , if it was a rod it would be so easy, it is the mechanism that unlocks  the door that is jammed. therefor the door does not open.  We broke the top inside panel, only the top cause we can not open the door , what else can we do?  the dealer would rip out the door , it would cost more then $1000. if we can just figure out a way to unlock the door from the inside.  No nobody tried to break in , it just stopped one day to unlock , just like that , thank you for your time and help

Answer
There is a rod that connects to the door handle and another that connects to the lock cylinder to the outside. The same for the inside handle and lock. Forget about the rod or wire as you call it, go for the latch itself. Down on the inside of the door towards the middle back edge is where the latch is. You need to get a hold of the release lever on the latch. It will have a plastic clip where the rod was or wire. Take the coat hanger or whatever you can use to move the lever up and down to get it to unlock. It will be a matter of trial and error until you get the right one. As I said before, his will probably be tough, this is not that easy for us body guys.
It may come down to a body shop repair which will cost close to a hundred bucks depending on the knowledge of the tech. I could probably do it in less than an hour but I have a lot more experience at this kind of stuff than most .
