Auto body repair & detailing: 4runner lift gate, toyota 4runner, 4runner

Question
  I have a 1999 Toyota 4runner, and the latch that opens the lift gate is not working. I would like to know how to take it apart to replace or repair it.

Hope your up for a challenge you must climb into the back of the car and remove all the trim screws on the lift gate trim pad that you can see. Then pry on one corner and work you way around the whole trim pad checking for screws you might of missed along the way. after you get that off reach inside for the handle you should be able to feel some bolts or nuts holding it on. Those need to come off then un- clip the rods and pull off the handle. Sounds simple right ?
