Auto body repair & detailing: Bumper Repair on Brand New Kia Sorento, kia sorento, paint repair

Question
Hi Brian,

I just purchased a brand new Kia Sorento SUV a week and 1/2 ago.  Upon getting home from the dealership, I noticed 3 scrapes on the rear bumper (from their lot).  I called the dealership and they set up an appointment to bring it in for a paint repair.

They kept my Sorento for about 7 hours.  Apparently they painted 1/2 of the bumper to make the repair less detectable.  The color match is good, however it is obvious that this newly painted area lacks about 50% of the shine and luster of the rest of the bumper and finish.  The surface is also not as smooth as the original.

After noticing that, I called to express my concern and was told that in 10 days I can bring it in for a "buff" to take care of that.  My question is this: Will they really be able to match the factory shine by just buffing the area?  And, is it possible that a "one day job" was a shortcut.  I want to be assured that this work will match the look and quality of the original paint.  I am fairly uninformed about this process and seek the opinion of an expert.

Thanks!

Answer
I think they should have given you a loner car for atleast 2 days the reason for this is it only takes 24 hrs. for paint to dry and less if they have a up to date spray booth with heat. then the second day they are able to buff the car and deliver it to you. They had better match the original shine if they dont tell them you are not happy and want it done to your likeing. Do not take any crap from the dealer you are 100 percent in the right about this. Also tell them you want a warrantee on there work.

                Hope this helps
