Auto body repair & detailing: paint repair and waxing, mazda mx 3, paint repair

Question
Dear Brian,
I have a 1992 mazda mx-3 and she is a great car, but been around as a daily driver for years, so has a few body problems, all minor. I have sanded, puttied, primered, sanded, etc. Some spots are on metal and others on fiber glass, all mostly small, size from dime to dollar bill, all inflicted by rocks, shopping carts, roadkill, hehe, etc. At the moment I am away at school and will not be able to get a paint job till mid aug. and I was wondering should I wax over the work that I have done to protect it before I get it painted, or is there something else I can do to protect it, so I don't have to do touch up sanding, etc. before sending it off to be painted?  Any suggestions?
Thanks, Annie

Answer
You need to prime all the bare metal spots with a self-etching primer. But after it gets wet wipe off the standing water because primer is not completly waterproof. you can get this primer at an automotive supply store and if it is a big store you can get colored primer that is close to your car color.
