Auto body repair & detailing: refinishing, small screws, hood scoop

Question
hello, I have successfully riveted a hood scoop to my hood and I am about ready to send my car to be refinished and painted, and my hood scoop blended in; my question is what type of filler should I ask the body to use being the hood is steel and the scoop is plastic? dont want a crack developing because of the surface difference(heat, cold issues) Thank you very much.

Answer
First of you should had never riveted your scoop on. Because the rivets will pop through no matter what you us for a filler And I am telling you the truth. It will never be right. Drill the rivets out. Take the scoop back off. Go to your locall automotive supply store and buy some metal to plastic bonding material e.g. fusur or duramix will work.
Its a two part mix. Then grind the paint off the hood where the scoop will go. Then grind the scoop where it touches the hood.Apply it liberaly on both pieces. then set scoop back on the hood and use small screws in your pre-drilled hood and scoop to tighten it down flush. After 24 hours take the screws back out. It will leave small holes but do not worry the body shop will fill them for you. Each body shop uses different material to smooth out the bodywork so let them decide what to use. I have no preference.

Hope this helps you with your project
