Auto body repair & detailing: Repair panels, arc welder, screw holes

Question
I am trying to restore a 1966 Mustang. I removed the gas tank and I cleaned all the rust and paint out of the trunk floor. I am going to restore the trunk floor with 4 custom fitted steel repair panels that surround the gas tank. I'm going to sister them over the existig metal. I only have an arc welder and a stitch welding attachment, but I have problems welding thin guage steel(I always make a hole). Are there any others ways that I can place these 4 repair panels in(Screws, Adhesive)? There is no structural damage to the trunk floor and I have these panels to use. Do use have any suggestions how I can use my arc welder to do this job? This is my first attempt,so any information will be greatly appreciated! Thanking you in advance-Tom

Answer
I recomend using Duromix or Fuzier to put these panels in as long as you can grind the steel clean and overlap them. The product can be bought at any good automotive supply store.I recommend medium set. For a slower drying and easyer to work time. you might have to borrow a gun to apply it. First grind and pre-fit panels before gluing using a few screws. Then go for it, glue and screw. After it has set for a day remove screws and fill screw holes with same stuff. Stick welding is not a good way to weld sheetmetal.

             Hope this helps
