Auto Parts: Blower motor resistor repair 2000 Grand Prix, blower motor resistor, plug locks

Question
QUESTION: Trying to change this part, and do not want to damage they electrical connections to the fan, etc.  What is the best way to "unplug" the connections to the fan so it can be removed to replace the resistor?

ANSWER: Hi Brian,

Um, how is it attached now? Most of the GM resistors I've seen have disconnectable plugs. Perhaps we are thinking of two different items.

Thanks for the question, I hope this information was helpful to you.

QUESTION: Sorry, its actually the fan I'm trying to disconnect so I can get at the resistor.  The electrical "plug" is connected to the fan on the back side, so its tough to see and I'm afraid of breaking it.  I'm sure there is a way this plug "locks" into place, so I need to know how to unlock/unplug it so I can remove the fan.

Answer
Hi Brian,

OK, I get it now. Sorry. Actually, on that vehicle, I think it is just pressed in to the housing to make it simpler to access and remove if needed. However, first I'd see If you can feel the plug, feel around to the back of it and see if you feel a clip. Very hard to explain, but the clip may be a press clip. So instead of you having to release a tab by pulling it away from the connector housing, on the style connecting your blower I think it is a press type. There should be a small piece of plastic on the back sort-of like a see-saw. It is held in the down position naturally and when you press the release near the end of the connector, wire end, it should release the connector from the blower motor.
