Auto Parts: pontiac starting, pontiac grand am, service engine soon light

Question
QUESTION: I have a 02 pontiac grand am this morning i tried to start it. i have been told it may be the crank postion sensor. it fires and tries to start but will not. the service engine soon light is on. can you tell me where to find this sensor. i understand there are 2 of them. the car ran fine no problems before that. thank you for your help gnene

ANSWER: The sensors you are referring to are the Crankshaft positioning sensor and the Camshaft positioning sensor. i would need to know the type of motor whether its a 4cyl. or a V6. Also do you have anyway to scan the computer for codes?

QUESTION: SORRY IT IS A V6.WE BOUGHT A CODE READER AND PLUGGED IT INTO THE PORT. IT DOES NOTHING WILL NOT EVEN COME ON. WE PLUGGED INTO ANOTHER OF OUR VEHICLES AND IT READ IT FINE. TODAY WE CHANGED OUT THE FUEL FILTER AND PUT ETHER INTO THE INTAKE. THE CAR STARTED BUT WOULD NOT STAY RUNNING. ITS GETTING FUEL AND FIRE TO THE SPARK PLUGS. COULD THE COMPUTER POSSIBLY BE OUT SINCE IT WILL NOT READ THE CODE. THANK YOU

Answer
BINGO!!! If your not recieving a report from the computer, its toast. not a very expensive part to replace, and also quite easy in installation and removal. If your problem should persist please dont hesitate to say so, i would be more then happy to pursue this prblem further..
