Car Alarms: Resetting 2000 Toyota Camry Factory-Installed alarm-help!, toyota camry, chirps

Question
Hi-

Recently I accidentally drained my battery.  I rebooted it and charged and it seems to be doing fine.  However, it seems like this must have caused my alarm to go into tamper mode.  Now when I use the keyless entry remote to lock or unlock my car, it honks as well as chirps.  Also, I now only have valet keys, I haven't had a master key for years.

I was reading about using the valet button (red LED to the left of the steering wheel) to reset the alarm system to get it out of tamper mode, but the LED doesn't seem to be responding to my pressing it at all.  I messed around with it because it felt stuck, could I have accidentally broken it?

What I've been doing is unlocking with the remote, turning the ignition to ON, and then holding down the LED- but nothing happens.  I don't feel it clicking or anything.  I'd prefer not to take it to a dealer to solve this.  Any help would be appreciated- thanks.

Answer
Ok then, get over to the local car alarm shop,
or even a Circuit City or Best Buys will
have a valet switch that will fit for your
alarm.

In the mean time, cut off the switch part,
leaving the 2 wires that were connected, free.

Then twist together, turn on the ignition,
hold both wires to ground until the siren chirps.

That should reset and place the alarm into
over ride for now. Nothing accept the keyless entry
if installed will operate until you repeat the
same steps.

Then get a new switch and you're all set.

Have a good day.
Let me know if you were
successful.
