Car Alarms: TDS Alarm arm/disarm problem, resident technicians, toyota corolla

I need to know how to re-arm the TDS in my 2001 Toyota Corolla.  I un-synchronized my transmitter from the car recently and was only able to get the alarm to stop by disconnecting the positive cable on the battery to allow me to get to the disarm instructions in the glove compartment.  I disarmed it with the valet switch, but now I try to follow the instructions to arm it and all the transmitter will do is open the doors with the red button.  It will not activate the alarm, operate the black button; for opening all the doors, or sound the panic alarm; which is with the red button. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
