Car Alarms: Toyota 93 Previa aftermarket alarm, valet mode, keyless entry system

Question
Recently changed the battery on our 93 Previa and the alarm went off. Car
won't start. Have read answers to previous questions suggesting resetting the
alarm to valet mode, but this doesn't seem to work. Our alarm has a
(blinking) red LED (normally it's on continuously, I suppose meaning valet
mode). There's a silver toggle near it labelled ON and OFF, but that doesn't
seem to do anything, even with the ignition key turned to ON. This is not a
keyless entry system, BTW. Thanks for any help.

Well that's unfortunate. :>(
If the vealet switch is not operational,
then removal/replace or, repair & restore is next.
