Car Alarms: Must start the car before lock will function., valet mode, viper alarm

Question
Must start the car before the lock will function. And the remote doesnt work at all.

Viper alarm worked perfect for 2 years. Now the remote lights up but does nothing, and its not in valet mode. I re-program to see if the brain is responsive to commands using the valet button (it is responding). Makes me think the remote needs to be replaced.

Which leads me to the mystery.

When the key is turned to the spot just before cranking the car, the doors will lock. But after the car has sat more than an hour or two this feature will not work.
You must start the car, turn it off, then the doors will lock before cranking the engine.
So now im confused...whats that mean?
