Car Alarms: my sidewinder 476s remote, toyota celica, designtech

Question
hi. i just bought my toyota celica today and it has that remote that starts your car. well when i start the car sometimes by the remote, it will make a clanking sound and the car will shut off by itself.  i was told that it is probably a bad battery in the car becuz it sat for 2 years before i bought it. but my main prob is that the previous owner said that the remote is also suppose to open the doors. they dont have handles, so there is a button under the driver front fender that i pull to unlock the driver door. he said that there is a short in the car possibly preventing it from being opened by the remote. the passenger side has to be opened from the inside. there is a button in the middle of the center column that is suppose to open that door, but does not work. i wa told that the remoyte not working for it might be a relay. any suggestions as to what i need to do to make my doors open properly? plz help.
