Car Alarms: Mitsubishi Montero, vehicle security system, mitsubishi montero

Question
QUESTION: I own a 1999 Mitsubishi Montero and the factory installed car alarm go off after being armed for no reason.  Is there any way of resetting this or can we disarm the system? (I would just reset rather than disarming)

ANSWER: Please be more descriptive if possible.

"GOING OFF?"

I need to determine whether it's a factory alarm
issue or, if it's an aftermarket system you are
dealing with.

Is it: Headlights flashing, car horn honking
and a worded SECURITY" light in the dash flashing?
(doubtfull since none of the notes show this
car as having a factory alarm system)=FACTORY

Or,

is it: flashing parking lights,
an LED in the dash area, and a siren
going off?= AFTER MARKET

Let me know more on this to better
advise you on a course of action
to take.

QUESTION: I have the book that came with the car and it is a Mitsubishi motors authorized accessories electronic vehicle security system.  The Siren goes off and you can disarm by pushing the unlock button on the key remote or by pushing the a little button in the dash.  I just assumed it was factory installed.  I originally thought it had something to do with the battery needing to be replaced  in the keyless remote, but I changed the battery and that didn't help maybe made it worse.

Answer
Hmmm, ok try this.
You'll need to set off the alarm for a few seconds.
Then, turn on the ignition
key, press and hold in the button (little
spring loaded micro button, red or black possibly)
until the alarm chirps 1 time. This should over ride
the system, and only the keyless entry part,
if installed, would still be operating.
The LED (light emiting diode) light in the dash
should also go on solid.

At this point. the alarm would have reset.
If this had a starter kill relay installed,
it would now be opened, and the engine would
turn over when tried.

You would repeat these steps to go back to
user mode to see if this was corrected.

But if it does work, I'd keep it this way, and
replace the alarm asap with one you know and
understand how it operates for the best overall
experience.

Let me know if it works for yours.
