Car Alarms: 97 Honda Prelude OEM alarm, thatcham category 1, honda prelude

Question
I'm having trouble trying to start my car after someone has obviously tampered with it.  They did not cut any wires but it looks like they were trying to find a switch.  I have the origional alarm system that came with the car and the alarm manual says it is a "Honda Cat 1" "Thatcham Category 1" system.
Everything works as advertised until I try to actually turn the ignition.  At that point all the electronics die, and I get nothing.  I thought it was the battery being dead but I don't even get the starter click.  I've tried resetting the alarm as per the manual and tried disconnecting the battery.  No luck so far.
The doors unlock and lock, and all indications (LED, Turn signals) still function properly.
Any suggestions?

Answer
This is a difficult question to answer not knowing what the person tampered with.  If your security system is locking and unlocking, and all other electronics work until you turn your key to the run position, I would be leaning towards the ignition switch being bad.  If the security system shows no indication of being triggered, and all other functions of the vehicle are working fine, and your battery is testing ok then I would have to think it is a problem with the vehicle itself and from the brief description of your problems this could indicate a bad ignition switch.
