Car Alarms: explorer alarm, ford explorer xlt, light flasher

hi i have just bought a 2000 ford explorer xlt could you tell me if it is fitted with an alarm as standard. there is a hole in the dash where acording to the handbook there should be a warning light in it. but cannot get any info anywhere any suggestions would be most welcome.   best regards leslie miller

Yes, there is a factory security system in the Explorer,
but this sounds as if this one is an aftermarket
setup because of the hole. Ford would not have left
a hole open in they're vehicles. The hole
is for an LED status light. It seems as if
it was removed however, prior to your purchase.

The factory system is still in there, but is
just a noise generator/light flasher, and takes
alot to trigger it. Not the best thing to rely
on here.

So I will say, no aftermarket system is in it now,
but I do suggest putting it into this vehicle, as
it is a very popular truck to steal.
