Car Stereos: Replacing + sound system Suzuki SX4 Hatchback, suzuki sx4, channel amplifier

Question
2009 Suzuki SX4 Hatchback - Steering wheel controls, built in Garmin.
Hi,
I know that I can have this sound system replaced, but can I also add additional speakers? I want crisp sounding system so that I can hear highs and mids. I don't know if additional speakers are overkill, or if I can get a really good system by just replacing deck and speakers. What do you think?
Thanks

Answer
Hi Suzi,

If you're just looking for clearer, brighter sound, then I'd upgrade the existing speakers (and possibly add an amplifier to drive them) rather than add additional speakers.  Unless you're looking for more features that aren't available with the factory head unit, I don't think replacing the factory radio is necessary; you can upgrade the speakers and install an after-market amplifier without switching the head unit.

Personally, I'd probably start by upgrading the front speakers, and see how it sounds.  If you're mostly looking for clearer mids and highs, the rear speakers are less important.  Once you've upgraded the speakers, you might want to consider a 2-channel or 4-channel amplifier.  This allows you to play the system louder while maintaining a clear, undistorted sound.

Hope this helps!
