Car Stereos: 2000 monte carlo, hex screws, knee panel

Question
I am trying to put an aftermarket cd player in my 2000 monte carlo.how do i get the other out of the dash

Answer
Hi Carrie,

To remove the factory radio in this car, you have to take off the entire dash panel that goes around the radio, climate controls and instrument panel.

Start with the plastic panel just above the pedals.  You'll find a couple little spring clips at the front of the panel; release the clips and let the panel hang down.  Then you'll need to remove two 9/32" hex screws at the bottom of the driver's-side knee panel; once the screws are out, pull at the top of the knee panel to unclip and remove it.

Remove the fuse box cover on the end of the driver's side dash; underneath it, there's a screw that holds the end of the main dash panel.  Open the glove box and look on the left side of the opening; you'll see another screw that needs to be removed for the dash panel to come out.

Pry out the small circular bezel around the key switch; be careful here, because if you break any of the little tabs on the key switch bezel, it won't fit tightly when you put it back on later.  Then you can pull around the edges of the main dash panel to release the clips that hold it in place, until the entire assembly comes free.  You'll probably need to disconnect a couple switches built into the dash panel before it can be removed entirely.

Once the dash panel is removed, you'll see the screws that hold the factory radio in place.

Hope this helps!
