Car Stereos: Chrysler Sebring, chrysler sebring convertible, 2004 chrysler sebring

Question
Hi Ed-

I'm actually an AllExperts expert myself, in the audio systems category, but car audio is so... different, and I'm kind of confused!

I just bought a 2004 Chrysler Sebring Convertible GTC, and I'm looking to replace the stereo with the Pioneer DEH-P4000UB from Crutchfield.  I understand the basic concept of a wiring harness, but what I'm struggling with is whether or not my vehicle has an "Infinity" sound system or not (since I'm assuming that the harness would be different depending on this).  Is there a simple way to tell?

Also, am I correct in assuming that if I take out the OEM head unit, and replace it with the Pioneer unit, that the vehicle's amplifier and speakers will work with it? I may want to replace speakers and stuff later on, but right now I'm looking for a cost-effective way to get more features in my car stereo. I don't really care about being able to rattle windows or anything... I just really need more input options than AM/FM/CD like I have now.

Thanks!

Answer
Hi Steve.

The Easiest way to tell if a car has the infinity or premioum sound its to look for the word ¨Infinity¨or ¨Premioum Sound¨imprinted somewhere on the OEM radio or on the speaker covers if it doesnt say anything there and you think there might be factory amplifiers somewhere you can pull a door panel and take a speaker out, test the impedance on it and if its a 2 ohm speaker that means it has an infinity sound system if its a 4ohm speaker and its driven by an amplifier then its only a premioum sound, the way you can test  if it has a factory amplifier driving the speakers its to pull the radio, find the wires going to the speakers, grab a 9v battery and touch one wire to each pole on the battery, this should make the speakers ¨pop¨if it doesnt have an amplifier.

Also if all you want its to add amplifiers you dont have to change the whole radio to add em, or if you want to add an ipod input you can do it also, check out soundgate´s website.

I hope this helps and im sorry i couldnt answer before, i went out of town and i kinda forgot to put myself away on the site.

If you need any help finding anything else ill be here.

Regards

Ed.
