Car Stereos: CD Player Malfunction, 2005 pontiac g6, pontiac g6

Question
QUESTION: I have a 2005 Pontiac G6, AM, FM and single disc CD Player.
A CD will not eject.  It will play fine...but when I press the eject button...it sounds as if the CD is spinning but there is a clicking noise.  I have disconnected the battery terminals...everything humanly possible plus ask my mechanic.  If you "play" with the buttons long enough, No Disc may even appear. This is a store purchased CD.  Any suggestions?  Thank You.

ANSWER: Hi Janice,

The motor and levers inside the deck that are responsible for receiving discs and ejecting them are the most common type of failures they have.  The downside is the only thing you can usually do in those cases is replace them.

Pull the deck open, and manually remove the disc by hand (carefully so you don't scratch it), and then find a crappy disc you don't care about (or a coastered blank or something) and put it in.  See if it will go back to working correctly.  Check the store bought CD for any warping, etc.  If everything checks out, but the deck has stopped ejecting, you might have to replace it.

QUESTION: Thank you so much.  But I have one more question.  I've searched and it there doesn't appear to be any reasonable way to open the deck without "prying".  Of course the manual tells you nothing.  Thank you so much for your assistance.  Janice Smith

Answer
Hi Janice,

Unfortunately, that's likely to be your only option.  Remove the deck from the car, disconnect everything, and take it inside.  There's usually a few screws on the top holding the panel on the deck.  From there, it's held with friction.  Then, push up on the magnet that's holding the CD in place, and gently push it out manually.
