Car Stereos: adding amp to stock radio, stock radio, siverado

i was wanting to add an amp to my stock radio on a 2008 lt siverado but i was told by friends that i would have to take it in to the dealership because of some kind of lock i thought all i needed was the in-line converter kit

Hi Charlie,

If you're adding an amp and keeping the factory deck, you shouldn't require anything special.  All you'll need is the deck unlock code (which you should have received when you bought the truck) to unlock the deck when you disconnect the battery for the install.  You'll need a high to low level input converter, the amp, and subs/speakers you're adding, and you should be good to go.
