Car Stereos: 2001 Chrysler Sebring w/ Infinity premium sound system, chrysler sebring convertible, chrysler sebring

Question
QUESTION: My 2001 Chrysler Sebring Convertible stereo just quit working. I noticed the display blinking on and off just before it failed completely. Just prior to that the controls were intermittently locking up (not operating their intended functions). Any suggestions. I kind of like to tinker and have had some experience with automotive electronics.

ANSWER: Hi Jim,

Having it blink, and then finally go away would suggest to me you've got a corroded wire or loose wire somewhere.  The first place to check is immediately behind the deck.  Make sure everything is tightly clipped in place, and nothing looks out of place.  Also check the fuses, make sure they're in their slots cleanly (maybe even replace them.)

If there's anything else in the car that is misbehaving aswell, you could have a loose battery lead.  Check those and make sure they're on nice and tight and corrosion free aswell.

QUESTION: Thanks Justin. I'll check all connections. Can you suggest a link where I can find stereo head removal instructions for the 2001 Sebring Convertible?

Answer
Hi Jim,

In looking through various documentation for stereo removal instructions specific to your car, I came across lots of information regarding the exact problem you're having.  From what I can tell, there are no known fixes, and many Chrysler customers have been given the runaround by Chrysler regarding its fix.

I would strongly recommend replacing the stereo with aftermarket to save yourself the headache if checking the wiring doesn't fix it.

As for removing it, the plastic plate that surrounds both the stereo and the climate control knobs should come off with only a little bit of prying (they're held in by spring clips).  Once that's off, removing the deck should be easy (there's a plastic mounting that unscrews from the dash containing the deck).
