Car Stereos: Installing subwoofers in 1994 Toyota Corolla, toyota corolla, subwoofer enclosure

Question
Hello. I am, was, planning on installing a subwoofer enclosure box loaded with Kickers DS10L5 D2 and a Kicker ZX750.1 amp. I was informed that a 94 Corolla might not be able to handle the amp. It would drain a lot of power and might create problems with the lights, stalling, and affect the alternator. I would like to get your opinion. Thanks.

Answer
Hi Troy,

There's a few ways to deal with this.

First is to just install the system.  Turn it to the way you like, and see if it puts a strain on the system.  If it does, you'll see the lights dim, and the car might even sputter a little if it's bad enough.

If it does, turn off the system, and install a stiffening capacitor, a separate battery for the system, or a bigger alternator.  Most people go with the stiffening caps.  I've put a rather large system in a 96 Corolla before, and with a stiffening cap, it held out just fine.
