Car Stereos: Grand Am Stereo, factory speakers, walt mart

Question
QUESTION: I have a Pontiac Grand Am 2004 and I am replacing the stereo in it.  I already have the receiver, but I was told that I have to purchase some 100 dollar harness or else my air bags chimes sounds and other things will not work.... is this true and if not cant i just buy a normal GM wiring harness for it?

ANSWER: Hi Jason.

Sorry for the delay.

Yes this is true scoche part GM09 you can look it up on the internet. your chimes and airbags are integrated into the radio so if you change the radio without the  harness you will loose all those features, if u still dont believe me try and disconnect your radio you will notice that your door chimes are gone and your dome and dash lights i believe will be gone too, i have seen it before at walt-mart for like 50 bucks, but you know how that goes at least if you buy it at a car audio store they will honor the warranty they offer you.

Good Luck.
ps. sorry again for the delay.

QUESTION: No problem about the delay. Thanks for the help..i did buy that part, but I heard about another problem about replacing the rear speakers.  I have 6 by 9 Pioneer threee way speakers to install.  Crutchfield told me that there was no harness for the installation.  People are telling me to run wire from the receiver to the speaker?  But cant i just directly connect them with the wires?  ALso is there anything i need to know about installing speakers in the front doors?  Thanks!  THis car is begginging to be a pain in the ass. haha

Answer
well unless you have a premium sound like a bose sytem then you dont really need any kind or harness what i do on those i cut the factory plug on the speakers (leave enough wire so you can go back with the factory speakers) and connect the wires to the speaker, try and look for a color code for you car so you will know wich wire its gonna be positive and negative if you cant find one, just connect them  like that doesnt matter now if you get it right, after you are done connecting all speakers dont put the panels back on, turn the radio on and watch the speakers, if the cone sucks in you have the polarity backwards, the speaker must move upward, and thats really all there is to it not really complicated.

let me know
